This prestigious award is the highest state-level recognition for public schools in Arizona, and earning it is no small feat. Hundreds of schools apply each year for this highly sought-after designation, which recognizes schools that embody the very best in education. From academic excellence to student support, leadership and community involvement, this honor reaffirms what we have always known - BMES is a school of excellence, innovation, and dedication!
The rigorous selection process begins each August and involves an extensive application, followed by interviews and an on-site evaluation by a team of respected educational leaders. These judges observe all classrooms and common spaces, meet with staff, students, and families, and assess every aspect of our school’s academic programs, culture, and community involvement. According to the Arizona Education Foundation, "some of the qualities judges look for include strong leadership that inspires collaboration and embraces professional development; high-quality teachers and staff who create engaging learning experiences and help students thrive academically and socially; a rigorous standards-aligned curriculum that encourages critical thinking and problem-solving; engaged parents and community involvement; and a student-centered learning approach with extracurricular activities and a safe and nurturing environment." Fewer than 5% of Arizona schools hold this designation at any given time, making this a true badge of honor.
As AEF’s Director of Professional Development Brett Bonner stated, “A+ designation isn’t something that simply happens. It’s the result of unrelenting dedication to excellence in all areas of education, innovation, and community involvement.” This award belongs to each and every one of you - our outstanding teachers and staff, our hard-working students, and our incredibly supportive families.
